IST-Africa 2021 – Advance Programme / Early Bird Registration up to 31 March

Hosted by the Government of South Africa through the Department of Science and Innovation, Supported by the European Commission (EC) and African Union Commission (AUC), and Technical Co-Sponsored by IEEE, IST-Africa 2021 (10 – 14 May) is the sixteenth in an annual series of Ministerial Level Technology Research and Innovation Conferences hosted by Africa Governments.

Due to the unprecedented circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic and based on the success of IST-Africa 2020, to protect the health and well being of IST-Africa Community Members, IST-Africa 2021 will take place as a virtual event from 10 – 14 May.

IST-Africa 2021 is Technical Co-Sponsored by IEEE Africa Council, IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology, IEEE Education Society, IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society, IEEE South Africa Section, IEEE Tunisia Section, IEEE Uganda Section and IEEE UK and Ireland SSIT Chapter.

IST-Africa Week 2021 will provide a world-class international forum to showcase existing and emerging technology-enabled Research, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Development and ICT4D activities and capacity in Africa, Europe and the rest of the world.

The IST-Africa 2021 Conference Programme combines strategic keynote presentations, technical papers, policy papers and case studies. It also provides an opportunity to identify potential partners for future research and innovation cooperation under Horizon Europe, and other international funding programs.

Advance Programme

The IST-Africa 2021 Advance Programme incorporates 30 thematically focused sessions featuring over 120 presenters from the public, private, education, research and societal organisations from 24 countries.

Thematic areas addressed include: CyberSecurity; Collaborative Open Innovation and ICT-enabled Entrepreneurship; Global Development; Content Technologies; eHealth; eGovernment; Societal Implications of Technology; Next Generation Computing; eInfrastructures; ICT Supporting Power Delivery; Technology-enhanced Learning and eAgriculture and Environmental Sustainability.

[Virtual Event] MarTERA 4th call brokerage event for 2021

MarTERA is arranging its fourth brokerage event for potential partners in connection to the 4th call in ERA-NET MarTERA on Marine and maritime technologies for a New Era. In 2021 the MarTERA brokerage event is a fully virtual event with a combination of plenary sessions and 1:1 meetings using the b2match virtual platform.

The brokerage event is open to potential partners from all sectors who are interested in collaboration on the development and competitive breakthroughs of marine and maritime technologies. Participants from other countries than those represented by the partners of the MarTERA program are welcome to join.

Attending the brokerage event is free of charge.

MarTERA launched a fourth joint call for transnational research and innovation projects on 2021-01-04. This call is initiated by ministries/funding organisations from 9 countries: Belarus, Belgium, Germany, Malta, Norway, Poland, Romania, South Africa and Turkey. The total funding budget is EUR 8.5 million. The call will cover the following priority areas:

  • Priority Area 1: Environmentally friendly maritime technologies
  • Priority Area 2: Innovative concepts for ships and offshore structures
  • Priority Area 3: Automation, sensors, monitoring and observations
  • Priority Area 4: Advanced manufacturing and production
  • Priority Area 5: Safety and security

In a time of social distancing, the AIR Centre is bringing people back together by launching a series of online networking meetings that take place every Friday, from 1pm to 2 pm UTC. During these relaxing Networking Fridays, researchers, technology innovators, representatives of multilateral organizations, government officials, and social entrepreneurs will present to and discuss with the audience their current work and, most importantly, explore ways of future collaboration.
